In a significant move towards advancing educational quality, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) launched the Approval Process Handbook (APH) for the academic years 2024-2027. The handbook, unveiled by Professor TG Sitharam, AICTE Chairman, outlines meticulous procedures for institutions seeking AICTE approval for technical and management programs.
Enhancing Quality and Transparency
During a media briefing, Professor Sitharam highlighted amendments in the handbook aimed at prioritizing education quality, streamlining procedures, and ensuring transparent implementation. Notably, this marks the first time AICTE introduced the draft of the new APH to the public domain, garnering over 600 suggestions and comments, which were carefully evaluated by an expert committee and incorporated into the final draft.
Key Reforms in the APH
The APH introduces several key changes, including a three-year approval extension for well-performing institutions, relaxed intake limits for courses in such institutions, and reduced compliance requirements for land documents and NOCs. Additionally, thriving institutions benefit from an off-campus provision, and undergraduate programs in Computer Applications and Management fall under AICTE’s oversight.
Empowering Professionals and Promoting Innovation
In response to the evolving educational landscape, the APH allows employed professionals to enhance their academic qualifications through flexible modes. It also clarifies processes for Open and Distance Learning/Online Learning and offers default approval for skilling through vocational courses in AICTE-approved institutions. Emphasizing innovation, the handbook introduces the INDovation program and the establishment of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) on campuses.
Fostering Quality in BCA and BBA/BMS Courses
A noteworthy addition is the AICTE approval provision for institutions offering BCA and BBA/BMS courses, aiming to enhance quality through model curriculum, eligibility for scholarship schemes, faculty participation in development programs, free access to technical books, and improved placement and internship facilities through AICTE’s portal.
This comprehensive Approval Process Handbook signifies AICTE’s commitment to shaping a progressive and quality-focused educational landscape for the academic years 2024-2027.
