In a bid to expand its market reach, Apple is reportedly gearing up to release an economical MacBook, poised to rival Google’s Chromebooks and various entry-level Windows laptops. Sources suggest the potential launch could occur in the latter half of 2024. However, the exact pricing of this ultra-affordable MacBook remains shrouded in secrecy.

While Apple’s current laptop offerings start at approximately Rs 80,000, Chromebooks available on platforms like Flipkart and Amazon are largely priced under Rs 30,000. The question on everyone’s mind is whether Apple will follow suit and offer its budget-friendly MacBook at a similar price point. While details on pricing are scant, it seems improbable that Apple will go as low as the Chromebooks in terms of cost.

Apple previously ventured into the budget-friendly market with its SE series of iPhones, albeit at price points above Rs 30,000. The first-generation iPhone SE arrived in India at Rs 39,000, followed by the second version at Rs 42,500. In 2022, the iPhone SE 3 was introduced at Rs 43,900. While these price tags didn’t quite align with budget expectations, many consumers still embraced them for the allure of owning an iPhone.

It is unlikely that the rumored budget Apple laptop will dip below the Rs 30,000 mark. Apple could position it slightly above Chromebook pricing, leveraging its brand reputation for quality and seamless integration with other Apple devices. Features such as AirDrop file transfers, call and message syncing, and MacBook webcam usage with an iPhone might make it an attractive choice for existing Apple users.

If Apple indeed targets budget-conscious consumers, the price could fall within the range of Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000. Currently, the more affordable MacBook models belong to the Air series, starting at around Rs 80,000. However, it’s important to note that Apple has not officially confirmed the existence of this budget-friendly laptop, so potential buyers should exercise caution when considering these details.

As the rumored budget MacBook’s release date is set for the second half of 2024, it’s still a considerable way off.
