Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari, recently hosted a two-day national conference titled “Global Citizenship in the Virtual World,” organized by the Education Department’s Academic Studies Division. The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting by dignitaries, followed by floral tributes and an invocation to Goddess Saraswati.

Key Points Highlighted

• Professor Ashish Srivastava, Head of the department, emphasized the importance of global citizenship, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020’s advocacy. He elaborated on how the policy addresses this demand.
• Professor J.P. Lal, Chancellor of Central University Jharkhand, echoed the sentiment that India has always advocated the concept of global citizenship, emphasizing its civilization’s focus on making humanity better rather than merely promoting religion or caste.
• Professor Rakesh Chandra from the Philosophy Department at Lucknow University delivered an enlightening speech, emphasizing education’s role in shaping individuals into better human beings, highlighting women empowerment and the role of language in strengthening national unity.
• Professor Upendra Kumar Tripathi, Director of Vedic Sciences at Banaras Hindu University, delved into the significance of Indian philosophy, particularly discussing the elements of nature and their relevance in knowledge and spirituality.
• The closing address by Professor Sanjay Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Central University, emphasized the need for global citizenship to foster justice, peace, tolerance, inclusivity, and empowerment, concluding the welcoming ceremony.

Acknowledgments

Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Education Department, expressed gratitude towards the attendees, concluding the inaugural session. Following this, three plenary sessions were organized, featuring esteemed speakers discussing various aspects of global citizenship.

Cultural Evening

The event culminated with a cultural evening, attended by members of the Mahatma Gandhi Central University family, including Prof. Pranvir Singh, Dr. Paramanand Tripathi, Dr. Shyam Jha, Dr. Garima Tripathi, Prof. Brijesh Pandey, Dr. Paramatma Kumar Mishra, Dr. Vimlesh Singh, and many others. Over a hundred participants from different universities, including Ganesh Shukla, Angad Singh, Gautam, Shubhra, Menaka, Kanai, Sujoy, Parth Sarkar, Manish, and Pranav Varman, actively participated in the event.

This conference served as a platform for intellectual discourse and cultural exchange, enriching the academic landscape with diverse perspectives and insights.
