Indian Language Day : Language is an important part of our culture – Prof. Sanjay Srivastava

A one-day national seminar organizes on the occasion of Indian Language Day by the Faculty of Humanities and Languages at Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari, Bihar, on the topic ‘National Consciousness and Subrahmanya Bharati in Indian Poetry’. Chief patron of the program and Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sanjay Srivastava says language is the medium of expression of our feelings. We can study the complex processes of society through a powerful language. Language is an important part of our culture. The basis of ethnicity is language, which is its basic characteristic. Language also works to polarize politics in the society. We can see similarity in languages. We need to emerge from linguistic disputes and contradictions. We will also have to take inspiration for unity from languages and gradually develop a multilingual society.

Chief guest Prof Vinay Kumar Singh (BHU) says our country has been full of wealth, religion and knowledge, that is why Subramanya Bharti always talks about knowledge and consciousness in his poems. He is a poet of national consciousness, who unites India. With their inspiration we will have to look at the whole of India, so that the country can develop. He took Swaraj from Tilak, nationalism from Tagore, cultural nationalism from Maharishi Aurobindo, respect for women from Sister Nivedita and truth and non-violence from Gandhi. They also emphasize on mother tongue, which we have abandoned today. Whereas there will be happiness and joy only when we are true to our deeds. The land of India always gives birth to humanity and the land of the world always gives birth to man. We get to learn all these sentiments from Bharti’s poems.

The cultural heritage of the country is present in the form of contemplation in the poems of Subramanya Bharati – Prof Shankar

Prof. Siddharth Shankar, who came from Jaiprakash University of Chapra in the program, says through this type of event, we come to know that languages are different, but our thinking is one. Because in it the concept of nation is expanded. The cultural heritage of the country is present in the form of contemplation in the poems of Subramanya Bharati.

Giving a special statement in the seminar, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Ashish Srivastava said that the aim of education is to coordinate the knowledge aspect, emotion aspect and action aspect. There is special focus on multilingual teaching and learning in the National Education Policy 2020. Which we get from the thinking of Subramanya Bharati.

Indian languages have enriched each other’s language and culture – Prof Dutta

Presenting the welcome address at the seminar, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Languages, Prof. Prasun Dutta Singh said that the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided to celebrate the birthday of Tamil poet Subramanya Bharathi as Indian Language Day. Language is a matter of the heart, language is a medium of culture, language is a medium of preserving and promoting culture. The translation of our Vedas and scriptures into different languages brought about a change in the sentiments of Indians towards them. Indian languages have enriched each other’s language and culture. With this feeling, let us respect all languages. We can understand this from the poems of Subramanya Bharati.

Consciousness is the core of our culture, it is present in languages – Dr. Prasad

While introducing the topic in the program, Assistant Professor of Hindi Department, Dr. Govind Prasad Verma said that there are three key words in the topic of the seminar, Indian poetry, national consciousness and Subramanya Bharati. Unity in diversity is one form of it, while diversity in unity is also its other form. Consciousness is the core of our culture, it is present in languages. Our main aim is to know and understand Indian languages by keeping Subramanya Bharati at the center because Bharati is the bridge between North and South. Native language, Swadesh and Swadharma are reflected in his poems.

Linguistic diversity is an indicator of our cultural richness – Nityanand

During the technical session, Nityanand Srivastava said that the purpose of celebrating Indian Language Day is to strengthen the unity of the country on linguistic basis. Linguistic diversity is an indicator of our cultural richness. Tamil poet Subramanya Bharathi strengthened the nationalism of the country. Dr. Baljit Srivastava said that Hindi poets spread national sentiment in the Indian independence movement through their poetry. Hindi poetry was a source of energy in the Indian independence movement. If we read these poems even today, our feeling of patriotism becomes stronger.

  • In the seminar, all the distinguished guests including the Vice Chancellor started the program by lighting the lamp and laying wreath.
  • All the distinguished guests who came on the stage were honored by giving them corsets, bouquets, mementos and saplings.
  • The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Shyam Nandan, convener of the seminar and co-professor of the Hindi department.
  • The stage was successfully conducted by Dr. Bablu Pal, Associate Professor of Sanskrit Department.

On this occasion, Dean of Commerce Faculty, Prof. Shirish Mishra, Dean of Library Science Faculty, Prof. Ranjit Choudhary, Head of Department of Hindi Department, Dr. Anjani Kumar Srivastava, Associate Professor Dr. Garima Tiwari, Dr. Asha Meena, Head of Department of Sanskrit Department, Dr. Shyam Kumar Jha, Associate Professor Dr. Vishwesh Wagami, Dr. Vishwajeet Verman, Head of English Department Dr. Vimlesh Kumar Singh, Associate Professor Kalyani Hazari, Dr. Deepak, Associate Professor of Media Department Dr. Parmatma Mishra, Dr. Anupam Verma, Dr. Narendra Singh, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Dr. Sapna including heads of many departments, ​Researchers and students were present.
