India is celebrating 125th Birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on January 23. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary is also marked as “Parakram Diwas” announced by Modi government.

Subhash Chandra Bose, also known as “Netaji,” was an Indian nationalist leader who was a key figure in the Indian independence movement against British rule. He was born in Cuttack, Odisha, on January 23, 1897, and was educated at the University of Calcutta and at Cambridge University in England.

Bose began his political career as a member of the Indian National Congress, but he soon grew disillusioned with the party’s leadership and the slow pace of India’s independence. He resigned from the Congress in 1939 and formed the Forward Bloc, a coalition of leftist and nationalist groups.

During World War II, Bose formed the Indian National Army (INA) with the aim of freeing India from British rule. He believed that India’s independence would be best achieved through direct action and military force, rather than through peaceful means. He also sought the help of Axis powers, particularly Germany and Japan, in his fight against the British.

In 1942, Bose travelled to Germany, where he met with Adolf Hitler and other high-ranking German officials. He sought their support for the INA, but they were not willing to provide him with significant aid. Bose then travelled to Japan, where he was more successful in securing support for his cause. He formed the “Free India Center” in Tokyo and worked to build support for the INA among Indian prisoners of war in Japanese custody.

In 1944, Bose returned to India and took command of the INA. He led the INA in several battles against the British, including the Battle of Imphal and the Battle of Kohima. Despite the INA’s valiant efforts, they were ultimately defeated by the British.

Bose’s death remains a mystery. He was believed to have died in a plane crash in Taiwan on August 18, 1945, but there are many conspiracy theories surrounding his death. Some believe that he faked his own death and went into hiding, while others claim that he was murdered by the British or by other Indian nationalists.

Despite the INA’s defeat, Bose’s efforts and sacrifice were a major factor in India’s eventual independence. His ideas and leadership were a source of inspiration for many Indians, and he is still widely revered in India as a hero of the independence movement.

In addition to his political activities, Bose was also a prolific writer and journalist. He wrote several books, including “The Indian Struggle” and “The Indian War of Independence.” He also edited and wrote for several newspapers and magazines, including “Forward” and “The Independent.”

Bose’s legacy continues to be celebrated in India today. He has been the subject of numerous books, films, and documentaries, and his life and ideas continue to inspire many Indians. He is remembered as a brave and charismatic leader who was willing to make great sacrifices for the freedom of his country.
